First post and free pattern for cable knit headband from super-chunky yarn

Hi there. I'm trying the idea of starting a personal blog, as I'm leaving my job and therefore, my longtime blog, Meg Makes.

Super-chunky fingerless gloves
Just because I have a new job doesn't mean I won't stop making things, so I figured I need a place to write about it. Welcome to Meg the Maker. Please be patient with me as I figure out the whole personal blog thing.

This year for Christmas, I made my friend Erin (she who bakes magnificent cakes) fingerless gloves made from a soft, super-chunky yarn, and a cabled headband to match.

I used this free pattern for the gloves (making them smaller as pattern specified because I was using super-chunky, rather than chunky yarn), but couldn't find a headband pattern that matched. So, I designed my own.

Cabled Headband
Supplies:
Size 11 knitting needles
Cable needle
Super-chunky yarn
Nice, big button, if you want a button closure
Tapestry needle

FC means front cable, in the same style as the glove pattern linked above. It means to put two stitches on cable needle and hold at the front, knit next two and then cross held stitches over and knit.

Cast on 11 stitches.

Row 1: K3, P, K3, P, K3 (11 stitches)
Row 2: K1, purl 9, K1 (11 stitches)
Row 3: K3, P, K1, yo (this will become your buttonhole), k2, purl, K3 (12 stitches)
Row 4: and every following even row:  K1, purl 10, K1
Row 5: K3, P, FC, P, K3
Rows 7, 9, 11: K3, P, K4, P, k3

Repeat rows 5-12 until headband is desired length. Bind off on even row in pattern. Sew button on desired place at headband's end, or sew two ends together. Weave in ends to finish.
